those damn dirty apes!

In Britain, where Arctic Monkeys' "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not" is the fastest-selling debut album ever, breathless pop pundits have hailed the Sheffield quartet as bigger or better than another cocky young band from the north of England, the Beatles. But there's a lot more "Anarchy in the U.K." than "All You Need Is Love" in the Monkeys' sound and stance, as the group demonstrated Monday night at a sold-out 9:30 club, playing a brash 50-minute set. No encores, no apologies and -- as one song vowed -- "no surrender."

- The Washington Post

I would have appreciated even a minor apology...

So I went out to get some lunch at Chipotle and I still don’t understand why guacamole is such a hot commodity – it’s $1.50 extra to put it on the burrito…I mean, am I the only one that doesn’t understand why they charge 1/5 of the price of a burrito for a topping?? Anywho, I got in and one of my favorite movies of all time was on TCM – The Roaring Twenties (1939) starring Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney, and the wonderful, spectacular, talented and supremely underrated Priscilla Lane. It’s a decade long tale of vice, corruption, bootlegging and a love that never dies. I think I’ve seen it probably about 30 times and I know most of the lines by heart. I got in just in time to catch the last 20 minutes of the picture. Then I saw the best lineup for TCM I’ve seen in a while:

12:00PM: The Roaring Twenties (1939)
2:00PM: Angels with Dirty Faces (1938)
4:00PM:
The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946)
6:00PM: Double Indemnity (1944)

For the exception of Angels with Dirty Faces I’ve seen the other films each at least a dozen and a half times. I wish I didn’t have to work tonight!

Cagney and Lane...amazing

Also I work in a grocery store where we have a few computerized self-checkout terminals...I swear more than any other item during the day as I pass by I'll hear the computer tell the customer "move your haas avacado to the belt"...

I guess there are about a million and a half things you can do with them but really!

I really like old movies, but I don't think I've ever seen a Cagney movie. Any movie of his in particular that you would recommend to the uninitiated?

Spectacular, I love it when people show interest in the classics!

Well, I would reccommend starting out with this movie but it's kinda hard to get a hold of. Angels with Dirty Faces (1938) is another great Cagney/Bogie film and the one that I would pick to start off with. To really see his versatility I'd get ahold of Mister Roberts (1955) and/or Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942). After that I'd take a look at his amazing roles in The Public Enemy (1931) [one of his earlier films] and White Heat (1949). Here Comes the Navy (1934) is another good one to check out.

I know the list is long but I wanted to make sure I gave you many options.

Oh yea, and guess what was won the cover of the "Eating Healthy" magazine that I just happened to walk past at work? I just can't get away from avacados! It must mean something...maybe if I start having dreams about them I should really worry.
